Demand authorities put public money to public good. Insist they offer more plant-rich and vegetarian options at public institutions and source only ecological or organic meat.
How this tool works?
Greenpeace has created this tool so you can easily partner with people in your community who want more sustainable food choices. Just click the Start A Petition Campaign button to target a public institution that needs to change or sign on to one near you. Once you're done, you'll have the opportunity to join a local Our Food Our Future group or start your own. Or you can select Search For Local Groups and find student chapters and events near you. Use our Map for easy navigation to nearby campaigns.
What's wrong with industrial meat?
Heavy meat and dairy diets have been proven to increase the risk of heart disease, certain forms of cancer and diabetes. It also needlessly exposes you to antibiotics which make the development of superbugs more likely. Livestock accounts for 14% of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide, which exceeds the greenhouse gases of all transportation vehicles driving on the road. Fecal matter, concentrated antibiotics, and fertilizer runoff from factory farms pollutes surface and groundwater and causes ocean dead zones. One-third of our earth’s land reserved for livestock - either for grazing or for growing soy and corn feed for factory farms and we're losing precious forests like the Amazon.
What's the solution?
Join us in starting a global food movement that demands harmony with nature. Join or create volunteer group along with cities and schools all over the planet. Join the millions redefining who they are and what they want with their food choices. Flexitarians, reducetarians, responsible carnivores, vegetarians, part-time vegetarians, vegans - they are all part of the solution. Be a part of it.
